For decades consumers have been forced to choose between safety & miles per gallon. Larger heavier cars are inherently safer but are gas guzzlers. Smaller lighter car are more fuel efficient but don't perform well in accidents. Car manufacturers have been working to close this gap in safety vs. fuel economy, and we are finally starting to see some progress.
